President Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the loved ones of a Guard member killed last week to attend the executive mansion.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have occurred in their honor.
The president explained he’s proposed a White House visit for the families of both individuals of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump informed reporters. “And likewise with him, no matter the outcome.”
Community members assembled over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both they had been working with the state guard as part of Trump’s government program to support law enforcement in DC.
“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She behaved with calm resilience, a warm expression and a positive energy that inspired people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s alma mater, told the media. “She was sweet, considerate and always willing to help others.”
Memorial details for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Officials have accused a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The incident prompted the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and temporarily stop granting visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader the governor stated on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed a news show that she also intended to speak to the family.
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had fortitude,” he addressed the gathering at the vigil. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
