Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
