A campaign is aiming to send a cultural melody to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project aims to send support to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“The song holds a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “The essence is that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
The track was produced following a solidarity show held in the autumn. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the piece was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The notable list of musicians appearing on Lullaby includes a range of acclaimed names from the music world. All were part of the September show, which successfully generated a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Lullaby was produced by a trio of producers and composers. The single showcases a fusion of the heritage language with freshly written English words.
The team running the project have clarified that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These resources will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a representative explained. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The reality in the region was described as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of infrastructure said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions doesn’t make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is primarily making this cause better known and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The track is launching on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made ready to watch on a popular streaming site from the 19th of December.
