The Contents of the Case Henry Unlocks in the Hit Series?

Throughout a large portion of the fifth and final season of *Stranger Things*, the young Holly Wheeler and Max Mayfield find themselves trapped inside a mental fortress constructed from the past of the villain Henry. The search for a way out in "Escape from Camazotz" has them relive a life-altering moment from Henry's youth—a discovery that may just hold the means to overcome him once and for all.

A Journey Into the Cavern

When she finds Max in the psychic realm dubbed Camazotz, Max reveals she is sheltering in a cave that Henry avoids at all costs. An accidental discovery a spyglass found in Henry's old home lets Holly see that the true terror lies beyond the cave. By aligning her view with the shape, she and Max plummet into a abandoned tunnel.

There, they witness a young, eight-year-old Henry come across an injured and paranoid man. When Henry tries to help, the man reacts violently, hitting him in the hand. Fighting for his life, Henry strikes the man down with a rock. "Is this what corrupted him?" Holly asks tearfully. It was a factor, but the event wasn't just a defensive killing.

An Interdimensional Incident and Stolen Research

This backstory explains the legendary naval test, which reportedly teleported a vessel into a realm known as the Abyss. Demogorgons assaulted it, and the lone returnee was the captain, who returned in a catatonic condition with an entirely new blood.

This man's son, a young Martin Brenner, sought to replicate this dimensional breach in Nevada. But a disloyal lab worker stole research materials to hand over to the Soviets, who were eager to begin their parallel research. That traitor in the mine shaft was that very thief.

The Briefcase's Contents

Considering what is known about Brenner's work, the container most likely held some of the unique blood type. As shown, Henry is wounded and bleeding. Exposure likely occurred upon contact with the blood, causing the development of his psychic abilities—powers he would later pass on to the test subjects Brenner would experiment on.

A second theory, the case could have held strange particles that eventually found its way to the Hawkins lab, where it helps stabilize the mirror dimension. *The First Shadow* reveals that young Henry somehow wound up in the Abyss, reappearing hours later as a different person. Throughout the play, he struggles with the influence of a sinister presence, similar to how Will was possessed by the shadow monster in the past.

Confronting Terror

The reason Henry avoids the cave associated with the mine demonstrates how profoundly traumatic the encounter was for him. While he orchestrates the army of monsters and seeks to merge the Abyss into Hawkins, a fragment of his psyche lingers. Vecna uses fear, and the narrative points to a final confrontation between him and Will, who has deliberately faced his greatest terrors to gain strength.

Will's growth has neutralized a key tactic of Vecna. Furthermore, Will now knows what the monster's own weakness, which could provide a decisive edge in the series finale ahead.
