Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Initiating Abusive Chants About Coach Chris Wilder

The striker has signed with Sheffield United only half a year after instigating disrespectful taunts directed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

This experienced striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has signed a contract with the second-tier club in difficulty until January. Bamford's seven-year career at Elland Road was ended by mutual consent in August.

One of Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading insulting songs regarding Wilder during the club’s promotion party this spring. Currently, the one-cap England player will be playing under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to pull the team he loves out of the drop zone.

Past Conflict Involving the Striker and Wilder

Both men had previous conflict prior to Leeds won promotion to the top flight the previous campaign and United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. The manager described the forward as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends & Looking Ahead

All seems to have been resolved with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost in attack while Bamford looking to revive his career.

The song about Wilder gained traction in April. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Wilder commented at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I’ve no issue whatsoever with it. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.

“We spent a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel as well and had a half-hour chat together and he's a great person, a class act. When I was playing we used to dish it out and accept it and that is part and parcel of football across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”

Latest Career Challenges

The forward made 18 appearances with Leeds United last season however the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
