Heavy storms over the past week have worsened the precarious circumstances of the many hundreds of thousands of uprooted civilians in the territory, as reported by relief agencies.
A official detailed the previous night's conditions as "awful", with downpours so heavy that around 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the streets.
"The recent weather was exceptionally horrendous for the people. The heavy rains were so strong... And the winds were so powerful," stated the spokesperson.
Authorities voice extreme anxiety that young ones residing in temporary structures in damp attire will fall victim to hypothermia and other illnesses.
Medical officials have reported that one baby has passed away from exposure and no fewer than 11 other people have died in structural failures caused by the harsh conditions.
Other reports put a greater number of casualties. Spokespeople stated that multiple residential buildings had collapsed completely and many others had collapsed partially.
Agencies have stepped up deliveries of shelter, bedding and garments after the ceasefire commenced, but they stress there is still not enough aid getting in.
"Agencies are operating tirelessly to bring in that assistance and to hand it out, but the magnitude of the necessities is so immense that we still have thousands of families and children who are truly suffering every night," stated one representative.
The subsequent part of the ceasefire includes plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the removal of personnel, and other provisions.
Relief bodies have underscored the need for "expanded and ongoing aid to meet urgent and future needs."
The conflict was initiated by an offensive in the autumn of 2023. Subsequent campaigns have led to a substantial number of casualties in the territory, according to official data.
